Primary and Custom Domains
Hi guys, in this video, we're going to be discussing the differences between a primary domain and a custom domain within the Tiny Brander platform. I'll be able to show everything on the big screen so I'll explain it clearly so you understand exactly the differences and when to use a custom domain and when to use a primary domain. Okay.
Firstly, we should discuss that there are actually three kinds of domain that you can use with Tiny Brander. The first is a subdomain of the Tiny Brand platform. So let me just show you that very quickly.
So if we go into the store management to one of our existing stores, whenever you set up a new store, you'll see that you get to create a subdomain of Tiny Brander and now this is with all stores you set up…
It will always have a subdomain of Tiny Brander to which then we can either apply a custom domain or a primary domain. So all stores will have subdomains. So that is the first kind of domain. Now you can just use that domain and choose not to have either a custom domain or a primary domain, you can quite happily sell products under that. But of course, it will have the Tiny Brander name in the domain, so it isn't recommended. So that's the first type, that is a subdomain of Tiny Brander.
Okay, let's talk about the other kinds of domains, the custom domains and the primary domains.
Okay, so if we go into one of our stores here, and we'll just use this test store right here, and hit settings.
You'll see that setting number one is the domain and we get to choose between a custom domain and a primary domain. Okay, the differences between these two is relatively simple to understand.
In Tiny Brander, we build what are called funnel stores. It's not like a overall store like you might find in Amazon with lots of different lots of different products in it. We firmly believe that the best way to sell your supplements is through a funnel system. So you have a single product that you offer on a sales page, which you then upsell other products to. So that is what the platform allows you to do.
If you want each category of your stores under a separate domain. So right now we have the four categories keto, CBD, beauty, and male health.
If you want each one of those stores that you create to have its own domain name, you would use a custom domain for each store, in which case you might use jonscbdstore.com. And then you would set that up under a custom domain.
Okay, if you want all of your stores to have the same domain, for example, if you want all of the different categories to be under jonsxyzsupplementbrand.com, and you wanted then all the stores to be under that, you would use a primary domain.
Okay, so that way you would have johnsxyzsupplements, and then all of your stores will be held under different subdomains. So you could set for example, keto in here. And it would be jonsxyzbigsupplementstore/keto.
Or if we were doing CBD, it would be CBD, jonsxyzbig supplementstore/cbd…
And so that way you can have all of your all of your branding under the same domain name, but just have different subfolders for each of your stores.
Now the way you set up a primary domain is you have to do that in your settings. You can see it here, I don't actually have any setup right now.
You see it's empty. But if I go to my settings and we have to choose a domain…
Which we know is obviously purchased, so it'll be I'm just gonna choose one which I know exists. So I'm gonna choose this one which is one of our other domains and hit add primary domain.
Okay, now that has been added successfully.
Let's give it a second to process and it's there right now.
Now obviously, you would then need to go and actually point that domain to our servers and we have instructions on how to do that in a separate video. Just search in the resources section for domain and you'll see a video there detailing how to point your domain to our servers.
Now what will happen is when we go back to our store management…
…and we go to the store.
And we look at the primary domain. If we go there, we can select now the primary domain that we just set simplehempbotanicals, and we could set, obviously, with that domain, you'd want CBD.
But obviously, you could set a different domain for keto, or a different domain for male health or a different domain indeed, for beauty or skin.
And that will be a subfolder of the actual, that will be a subfolder of the primary domain.
So to summarise, again, a custom domain you would use if you want each separate store to have its own custom domain name. So you would have joncbd.com, jonsketo.com, jonsmenshealth.com, you would use custom domain for that and each store would sit on its own domain. The primary domain you would use if you want to have subfolders for each of the separate stores. So you would have for example, jonssupplements, and then you would as the domain name, jonssupplements.com. And then all of your stores will be under the various /beauty, /keto or /CBD, etc.
So I hope that helps. I hope that explains the differences between the two and how to use them differently. If you have any questions or concerns reach us at support@tinybrander.com. Thanks a lot. Bye, bye.
